A man wanted for an armed home invasion in Waldoboro in March was arrested in New Hampshire June 17 by federal and local authorities after being featured on the U.S. Marshals’ “Fugitive of the Week” program.
Miguel Carpio, 31, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and officers from the Manchester (N.H.) Police Department without incident in an apartment in Manchester early that afternoon, according to a press release from the marshals service.
Carpio was indicted by a grand jury in Lincoln County Unified Criminal Court in May on charges of robbery, class A, burglary, class B, theft by unauthorized taking, class B, and criminal restraint, class D.
According to Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde, Miguel Carpio, Rafael Carpio, 26, and Sergio Carpio, 34, all of Manchester, N.H., allegedly entered a home on Ralph Wink Road in Waldoboro on March 9, held the adult male homeowner at gunpoint, and demanded cash and prescription drugs.
The men allegedly zip-tied the homeowner’s hands and feet, stole $2,000 in cash, prescription drugs, and a machete, and left the home, Labombarde said previously.
Rafael Carpio and Sergio Carpio, who were indicted on the same charges as Miguel Carpio, were both arrested in New Hampshire and were transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail on May 28.
Miguel Carpio remained at large, and according to the marshals service press release, was arrested based on leads from the U.S. Marshals Service District of New Hampshire’s “Fugitive of the Week” program and the hard work of many investigators.
The “Fugitive of the Week” program was implemented in 2007 and features fugitives in local newspapers, local TV and radio stations, and on the internet, according to the release. Miguel Carpio had just been featured on the program that day.
Labombarde said June 18 Miguel Carpio’s arrest came as good news to his department. “We’re thankful for the federal marshals working with us on that,” he said.
U.S. Marshal David Cargill Jr. thanked a number of law enforcement agencies in Maine and New Hampshire, including the Waldoboro Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, for their involvement in the investigation.
“It was the cooperative efforts of all these investigators from both [New Hampshire] and Maine that made this arrest possible,” Cargill said in the release.
Miguel Carpio will be held at the Hillsborough County Jail pending an initial appearance and return to Maine to face charges, according to the release.
Both Rafael Carpio and Sergio Carpio were being held at Two Bridges on $10,000 cash bail; their bail was posted and they were released on June 17, according to jail staff.
