Sunday, Oct. 5: here we are in the middle of the month of October which doesn’t seem possible. This is my first column of the month and a new week of my life at Crawford Commons.
It is a dark, rainy day; warm with a chill. The night lady med tech Terry was in about 4:30 a.m. and gave us our pain med and got my nebulizer machine ready to use later.
It was a quiet Sunday. We laid and rested during the afternoon. I read my Christian books.
Going back a week before, Sept. 28, it was the same kind of Sunday but a bright, sunny day.
Monday, Sept. 29 was sunny, warm with a chill. A lot of cloudiness. Chilly enough for a jacket that day for the first time. It was our usual doctor day. Our friendly driver Dean arrived and he wheeled my sweetheart out to the new van. He took my hand and helped me walk up the ramp in the back to the back seat behind the driver’s seat. I was belted then my sweetheart was wheeled up beside me. He was belted and his wheelchair was belted. Off we went to Waldoboro.
Dean had been given some forms to give the check in lady to give to our physician Dr. John Marley Dickens. The assistant sweet Shawna took our vitals in room 7. Questions answered. Then Dr. Dickens took care of Elden.
Worker Tory Gamage was there from her Scotty office. An air cushion they have in the works for my sweetheart’s wheelchair and physical therapy is coming from Miles Health to see what they can do to help my sweetheart.
An appointment was made for Oct. 22 to come and fit me to special shoes. After she left, the doctor finished up with Elden. He was put out in the waiting area. Then the doctor took care of me.
The doctor said I was doing fairly well. He said both Elden and I are full of arthritis. He knows my feet are hurting terrible and I do need the special shoes. He asked me about all my afflictions and if I’m receiving all my medications for them. I said ‘I suppose I am.’
I can’t tell where they have to crush mine all up in order to swallow, especially the big pills. Some I call horse pills, ha ha. Also both my sweetheart and I received our flu shots from Shawna as flu season is around now. We had to sign a paper that we received it. I was given a paper telling about the reason for flu shots. Of course if anyone is allergic to eggs or other ingredients, they have to avoid them.
We also talked about me being so incontinent at night and he wondered the reason for that. I told him I thought I was being given my fluid pills at night. He said I should be given those pills in the morning and wrote a note for the med techs.
Upon leaving, he gave me kind words with a smile.
I checked out with sweet Rebecca who gave me both my sweetheart’s and my after visit summaries.
Then it was back up in the waiting area with my sweetheart. Soon Dean arrived. He got us ready in the van and he brought us home.
Around Wednesday or Thursday our friend and activities director sweet Holly put on another special coffee time in the dining room around 10 a.m. Holly had special flavors again. I had caramel and my sweetheart had French vanilla. Sweet coffee rolls was served with it. The cook, sweet Krystal, fixed mine so I could swallow it better.
It was a delicious time.
On Thursday, Oct. 2, early afternoon, the physical therapist Debra from Miles Home Health came to see my sweetheart. She put information in her computer then she worked with him. She would be back the next week.
Sweet Linda the housekeeper worked on the floor doing work. Our room was included. She brought in items we needed, changed our beds, and cleaned our floors. She had to leave off a couple days housekeeping while the regular cook sweet Krystal had a couple days off.
Sweet Tina done our laundry on Thursday. She brought it in later; another nice job done all folded in the basket. I put them away.
Our head medicine and appointment man Darren was in one day last week and said he will be taking me to Pen Bay Physician’s building Oct. 22 to get my feet fitted for new special shoes. I was told first they was coming here, but they phoned him that they had more equipment there.
Activities director sweet Holly went to the Dollar Tree in Scotty this week. She shopped for some needs for us, same as she does few other residents. A few residents went with her who are able to go in the store.
The administrator, Paul, was in one day to see us too. He brings us the mail sometimes and care director, sweet Tara brings it in most of the time.
She says I’m pretty popular as I receive a lot of mail most every day. I have a lot of Christian mail and I receive mail from friends and my readers.
In Warren I heard where a sinkhole had developed through a culvert under the road which had to be repaired on Route 1, between North Pond and the marsh area across the road. The rerouting of traffic via construction gates has continued since late spring.
We are sorry to read in The Lincoln County News of Nancy Wilson’s passing. We so much enjoyed her column Back Talk from the Back House.
Was we happy to see resident, Richard coming in the dining room Monday, Oct. 6. We all smiled and clapped. After his fall a while back here, he was in the hospital and he went to his brother’s to recover. We all say hurray, hurray, hurray! Richard is back! Richard is back!
Ivan who rides on his scooter machine was in the hospital a few days and returned.
The psalmist reminded us of God’s presence and faithfulness. When he was deeply depressed, he cried out, “Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord; Lord, be my helper.” (Psalm 30:10)
As believers in Jesus, we will never lack what we need to persevere. The Lord will always be near.
God bless you dear readers and be looking for Marilyn Beane’s World next week.
