Tuesday, Feb. 3, another column about my life at Crawford Commons. Well, here we are in a new month already. Where does the time go?
It is a bright, sunny morning as I lay on my bed, resting, starting this column at 10:50 a.m. We had the two bad northeast storms like everyone else on Saturday, and again yesterday, Feb. 2.
It’s a mountain out back again from our back window view. Our kind and caring maintenance man Robert was out snowblowing again this morning as always. The plow comes every storm too. Robert has to snowblow nearly the length of this building on both sides. It looks like a tiresome job.
On top of that, the flush toilets caught. He went out to dig up the septic and cleaned out the same as he had to do one day last week. People have been putting wet wipes down the toilets. They get caught and last week caused the septic water to come out of the shower drain.
I tell you, we had water flooding our bathroom coming out in our room. Sweet Linda had to throw towels down to soak it up. After caring Robert cleaned out the septic, sweet Linda came in and cleaned the mess up and sprayed to sweeten the scent. Now all plumbing is back to normal.
They are taking wet wipes out of all rooms and taking them out of service. We’ve been very careful with them but some here didn’t seem to know any better. Huh!
Our kind and caring med tech Ed worked as aid on the floor yesterday. Sweet Nancy was med tech Sunday and yesterday. She has been teaching a new med tech, Ashley, who today is on by herself. Sweet Emilia was on as med tech yesterday. She had to stay a few extra hours last night until our sweet register head caregiver Tara came on.
Our med tech Terry has been ill with a virus, then she don’t dare to drive her car on these bad roads, which we can’t blame her. Med tech Briana has been filling in along with her own night hours this week.
Our activities director, Holly, came in late morning and took our list and money went to the Common Market in the village of Union this afternoon here to pick up a few items we needed, along with a few other residents’ needs and wants. She didn’t take a couple residents with her as usual because of the bad roads. I don’t blame her. She arrived back; a shopping job well done. The roads were slushy by then.
We watched a Souls Harbor video this afternoon with Pastor Rick Libby, going back in history as we have been doing all this past week and weekends too. We have also watched Souls Harbor from the early 2000s with Pastor Rick’s late dad, Pastor Ronnie Libby. The videos always help make the rest of the day. They are so uplifting and helpful and encouraging.
Med tech Ed left this morning when his relative came after him. They had a tow truck come to pick up his 2003 Dodge Ram truck in which the wheel bearing burned out coming to work this morning. It was to be towed to the garage for repair.
I am helping out my friends sweet Yvonne and sweet Carolyn who both don’t feel well and have other issues as well. I listen and advise best I can. They both say I help them and just love me so much. I love them so much too. I tell others too, like I do them, that I am praying for them. So many have afflictions here. That is part of my calling, being a servant of my loving Lord, Jesus Christ.
Our kind and caring friend Paul, who is the administrator here, was in our room yesterday to give us some spending money and we talked interesting subjects too.
Our kind and caring friend Darren was in today to check on our Monday doctor appointments, which we didn’t go to as Dr. John Dickens is on vacation; well deserved, I should say.
The past Monday we did see him. I just will say he had to examine my sweetheart for a very red and sore skin rash. He ordered a cream for it. Then I had a sore by my right eye. He took a sample to test. He said I have impetigo and covered it with a Band-Aid.
He said I would have to be very careful of it as it is very contagious. I said of course I would be. He ordered a cream to put on it. It is a good thing I had to go to him as it had started to spread. He was a little worried of it involving my blind, right eye, but thank God it hasn’t gone any further.
The kind and caring sweet med techs are taking care of it for me and say it is starting to improve. The cream both of us had to have was delivered by Waltz Pharmacy of Brunswick.
On Jan. 28 Linda changed our beds and cleaned our room floors.
On Jan. 30 Linda took my sweetheart upstairs on the shower chair wrapped in a blanket and gave him a shower. When she brought him back all fresh and clean she took me up for a nice shower. Oh, how we felt so good afterwards. A sponge bath and shampoo is okay, but a nice shower is much better.
We both was brought up on sponge baths coming from poor families; not even a bathtub. Ugh!
On Jan. 30, a birthday party was held in the dining room for three of the residents, Sally, Eddie, and Dottie, having January birthdays.
They all received nice presents and birthday cake and was served with Moxie drink. Holly had decorated the dining room in designed Happy Birthday trim and balloons. Their table had a very pretty birthday tablecloth.
Our resident friend Carolyn was in one day last week. We chatted and watched a Souls Harbor DVD with Pastor Rick Libby. Another resident friend Yvonne was in and out watching it. She finds it difficult to sit very long. They both know the Libbys as they have seen them on the Sunday morning television out of Bangor. They said the DVD was very helpful.
In Christ, we have been rescued! He has taken us from danger to safety; from death to life.
It’s worth pondering all that being rescued!
Means to us as we thank God for His grace and power. He means so much to us.
God bless you dear readers. Be looking for Marilyn Beane’s World next week.
