Marjolaine “Marj” P. Morris, 84, of Wiscasset, died March 8 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
She was born in Pittsfield on May 10, 1925, a daughter of J. Donald and Glenn Marie (Shorey) Harvey Sr. She was employed as a switchboard operator for the phone company in Wiscasset and on Feb. 18, 1942 she married A. Stanley Morris. They owned and operated Wiscasset Fuel Company for many years until her retirement in 1979.
Marj was a very active member of The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, participating in the Choir, Organ Society and one of the creators of Summerfest. In 1973 she was a member of the School Board and also very involved in the Minstrel Show and Variety Shows to benefit the Wiscasset schools. She was instrumental with starting the lunch program for the Wiscasset school system. She was a founding member of the Wiscasset Yacht Club.
She loved spending time at her waterfront home with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marj also enjoyed making crafts and knitting.
She was predeceased by her husband, A. Stanley Morris on June 30, 1989; brothers, Stanley Harvey and J. Donald Harvey Jr.; and sister, Marilyn Harvey.
Marj is survived by son, Richard Morris and wife Donna of Westport Island; daughters, Sharon Simpson of Wiscasset, and Katheryn King of Wiscasset; sisters, Geraldine Edgerly and husband Loring of Woolwich, and Gloria Dow and husband Harold of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Shannen Morris, Rick Morris and wife Lorraine, Marci-Ann Reed and husband Kent, Teresa Simpson, and Andrew King and fiancée Caley Quinn; great-grandchildren, Meghan Reed, Zachary Reed and Declin Morris; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of her life 1 p.m., Sat., March 13 the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. Gathering of family and friends will follow at Maineland Enterprises, Rt. 1, Wiscasset. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
