The First Bancorp has announced that Tony C. McKim has assumed the responsibilities and title of president and chief executive officer of the company and its wholly-owned banking subsidiary, The First N.A.
This announcement finalizes the transition first announced in May 2014 when previous President and Chief Executive Officer Daniel R. Daigneault announced his intent to retire.
“As I stated in May, I am pleased that we found our new president and CEO from within the bank’s existing executive management team,” said David B. Soule, chairman of the board of directors. “Tony has played a major role at the bank for a number of years; he understands our markets and our customers and will provide the leadership needed to build on the success we have enjoyed over the past 150-plus years.”
McKim joined the company as executive vice president, chief operating officer, and member of the board of directors upon completion of the 2005 merger with FNB Bankshares and its subsidiary, The First National Bank of Bar Harbor.
McKim assumed the title of president and chief operating officer of the company in June 2014, and ascended to the role of president and chief executive officer most recently.
“It is an absolute thrill of a lifetime to be selected by our board of directors to be president and chief executive officer of The First Bancorp,” McKim said. “I am honored to join the long line of successful bankers that have been chosen to fill this role for the bank.
“I look forward to the challenges that the banking industry will throw our way and I am excited to continue to work with the wonderful team of superior bankers we have here at The First.”
A native of Eastport, McKim graduated with distinction from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.
He is an honors graduate from the New England School of Banking and earned a course certificate in bank investments and financial management from the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business.
McKim is involved in several area nonprofit and banking-related associations, including the Maine Bankers Association, the Ellsworth Business Development Corporation, Harbor House, the Maine Seacoast Mission, and Acadia Youth Sports.
