Melting ice is the cause of a fire alarm that went off at the Jefferson Village School Sunday morning. According to Jefferson Fire Chief Sheridan Bond, water leaking on the fire detector set the detector off. He said the maintenance person was present when firefighters showed up around 7:30 that morning. Bond suggested maintenance isolate the system and get it fixed after it had been de-armed.
School principal Dusty Nelson said maintenance has isolated the one sensor and was working on getting the system fixed Monday. He said the source of the problem came from ice buildup on the roof.
“Even though we are getting a new school, we still have to maintain the present school,” Nelson said, adding there was no damage to the roof.
