Memorial Day Events

Damariscotta/NewcastleThe Twin Villages Annual Memorial Day parade will step off from Lincoln County Publishing Co. building on Mills Road in Newcastle at 11 a.m., Mon., May 30. The parade will follow the traditional route from Mills Road to Bus. Rt. 1 to the Damariscotta Church with stops for memorial ceremonies at Newcastle’s Memorial Park and on the Twin Villages bridge.

DresdenThe Lincoln County Historical Association invites everyone to the 57th annual observance of Memorial Day on Mon., May 30, beginning with a free 8:30-10:30 a.m. pancake breakfast (donations welcome) at the Pownalborough Court House. At 11 a.m. sharp all those present will gather at the flag pole on the parade ground. The Rev. Bruce Alexander of Dresden, assisted by George White’s Company, 11th MA Reg’t., with lead a program honoring fallen soldiers.

JeffersonJefferson will remember Memorial Day on Sun., May 29 at 2 p.m. at the veterans’ memorial on the Jefferson Village Green. Jefferson Boy Scouts will take an active part in raising the nation’s colors and The Rev. Dr. Susan Kraus will offer the invocation and benediction.

WaldoboroThe Waldoboro Fire Dept. Auxiliary is hosting a pancake breakfast before the parade, 7-8:30 a.m. Memorial Day, May 30 at the fire station, 1600 Atlantic Hwy., Waldoboro.

The annual Memorial Day parade is on Mon., May 30. Line-up for the parade is at 8:30 a.m. and the parade starts at 9 a.m. at the Waldoboro Town Office. The parade will cross Rt. 1 and proceed down Jefferson Street, then turn down Old Rt. 1. The parade will stop at the town’s two monuments, including at the old customs house (old post office/old library) and the memorial by Medomak Terrace.

WhitefieldThe Whitefield Historical Society’s annual Memorial Day observance will be held at the townhouse on Mon., May 30 beginning at 10 a.m.

Developed from research by Pat Parks and Arthur “Buzzy” Gould, readings will center on the Civil War, including life in Whitefield in the 1860s, local men who signed up to serve, and a list of 16 casualties from the town.

Violinists Alex and Sarah Smith will provide period music. There will be refreshments.

WiscassetA Memorial Day observance will be held at the Wiscasset Veterans’ Memorial, located at the town office at the corner of Rt. 1 and Rt. 27 at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day, Mon., May 30. The Bradford Sortwell Wright Legion Post #54 will lay a wreath at the memorial.
