Democratic candidate for governor Mike Michaud made campaign stops in Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, and Wiscasset Friday, Oct. 31.
Michaud kicked off his tour of Lincoln County at Treats in. The current representative of Maine’s 2nd Congressional District was visiting the Midcoast in an effort to rally voters ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
Accompanied by state Sen. Chris Johnson, D-Somerville, Michaud talked to tourists, residents, business owners, and employees about his campaign.
“People have been very enthusiastic,” Michaud said. “They’re ready for a change.”
“It was wonderful for him to come in,” Nora Tessier, a full-time employee at Treats, told The Lincoln County News. “He has my vote. We need a change in our state and I believe he has our best interests in mind.”
Later, Michaud visited Lincoln County Democratic Committee headquarters in Damariscotta.
“We worked hard to get him here, and we’re working hard to get people out to vote. There are a number of people volunteering,” Lincoln County Democratic Committee Chair Lisa Miller said.
Michaud greeted most of the crowd at Democratic headquarters and delivered a short speech. It was the largest gathering of people out to support him so far today, Miller said.
“Maine needs to move forward in a positive direction, and to do that we need a governor who believes in the state of Maine,” Michaud said.
Michaud also said he plans to expand MaineCare in order to provide access to health care to 70,000-plus Mainers, and he plans to work on this from day 1.
Michaud summed up his speech by saying, “we need to invest in education, take care of our seniors, and take care of our environment. I believe in Maine, and its people.”
After the speech, he walked downtown Damariscotta, greeting people and stopping for pictures with passersby.
