At 2:10 a.m. Christmas morning, Bert Corthell Butler was born at Miles Memorial Hospital to delighted parents Rhea and Oliver Butler of Nobleboro.
Bert weighed 9 pounds 9.9 ounces and measured 21 inches long. Miles midwife Bridget Buck attended the birth.
The family also received a Christmas wall hanging created by local quilter Julie Stegna after her daughter’s Christmas birth.
Since 1995, the little quilt has been passed to each new family welcoming a Christmas baby at Miles. The family is invited to write a note on the back of the quilt and keep it for the year. The quilt is then returned to the Miles Maternity Unit to be given to the next Christmas baby.
This year’s recipient was particularly appropriate. Rhea Butler is a quilter as well as the manager of Alewives Fabrics in Damariscotta Mills where she also teaches classes in quilting and fabric arts.
