A Jefferson resident sustained what officials said seemed to be minor injuries after she crashed her car into a telephone pole on the Bunker Hill Road (Rt. 213) in Jefferson Wednesday morning.
“This seems to be our frequent flyer spot,” Jefferson Fire Chief Sheridan Bond said.
The front end of Beverly Knobloch’s 1999 Subaru Hatchback station wagon was smashed in against a telephone pole just past a rise on the Bunker Hill Road, where in mid-August another car went off the road in just about the same spot. The car went off the road just past a scenic overlook and the Bunker Hill Baptist Church.
Accident Reconstruction Specialist Sgt. Jason Nein said he didn’t think speed was a factor in the accident, but instead believes Knobloch was briefly distracted and lost control. Her car, traveling southbound, left the roadway and struck the pole.
Nein said she was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital for what he believed were minor injuries. The deploying airbags could be credited for saving Knobloch from receiving further injuries. Nein said the crash was a pretty typical situation.
“It only takes a second to lose control,” he added.
There were no other injuries or other vehicles involved in the accident.
Electric power servicing 260 accounts on that road was shut off at 8:26 a.m. As of 10 a.m., power was still unavailable, according to a Central Maine Power spokesperson. He said typical car-telephone pole outages last a few hours.
