Miss Ashley’s Sub Shack, the South Bristol sandwich shop, has returned to its original McFarland’s Cove Road home after several months in a downtown location.
The shack, at the corner of McFarland’s Cove Road and Rt. 129, officially reopened June 12.
The menu continues to feature crab and lobster rolls; fried clams, haddock and shrimp; oysters on the half shell and, of course, a wide variety of submarine sandwiches and authentic Philly cheesesteaks.
Randy Hopper, who owns the shop with his partner, Kandi Ellis, said they plan to expand next year to make room for pizza.
Miss Ashley’s Sub Shack is one of the few restaurants in the area to offer delivery. For a fee of $3-$6, depending on distance, they’ll deliver throughout Bristol and South Bristol.
Hopper and Ellis said they made the move for a mix of business and sentimental reasons.
The sub shack is lovingly named for Ellis’ late daughter, Ashley Ellis, who died in 2009 at the age of 23. When the couple originally built it, they did so expecting Ashley Ellis to work there.
“The food’s the same,” Hopper said. “We just relocated back to our roots and we feel more comfortable here.”
The couple live next door to the sub shack and their 11-month-old rottweiler, Horatio, often greets diners in the nearby picnic area.
The proprietors describe the eatery as family- and pet-friendly, as Horatio loves children and other dogs alike.
Miss Ashley’s Sub Shack is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 8 McFarland’s Cove Rd. For more information or to place an order, call 644-1000.
