The Mobius Creative Expressions Art Show is on display at River Arts in Damariscotta through Friday, May 16.
The annual show collects the work of 20 artists who attend programs at Mobius Inc. in Damariscotta. Most of the works are acrylics, with some mixed media and some with additions like shaving cream to add unusual texture and depth.
Mobius employee Gina Hoffses runs the program. Hoffses was delighted with the reactions of Mobius consumers whose work was on display.
“The workshops have been wonderful for us all,” she said. “So many programs are oriented to measurable goals to meet state regulations. Art is free form, creative. It’s wonderfully freeing.”
Hoffses matted, framed and hung the show. The display, in the West Gallery at River Arts, is bright and cheery.
Melody Marks, of Haverhill, Mass., stopped by Saturday morning. “I saw this show last year,” Marks said. “This show is smaller but still very creative and fun. Where else can you buy art for $15 and be proud to hang it?”
There are pieces still available for sale. With price points from $10 to $50, including the framing and matting, the value is exceptional. There are works reminiscent of the impressionists that have delicate color mixtures, and there are silhouettes of horses, collages and steampunk.
The artists will receive 80 percent of the sale price. The remaining 20 percent is earmarked for paints and supplies so the program can continue.
