Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a new scam that is apparently coming out of Canada targeted at senior citizens with family.
According to the LCSO, the older person will get a phone call from someone pretending to be a law enforcement officer from Canada. The caller will state the senior citizen’s son, grandson, granddaughter, etc…. is in jail in Canada and they need a certain amount of money wired to a location in Canada in order to get that person out of jail.
Anyone who receives a call like this is advised to ask questions that only a family member may know and ask to talk with the family member. Ask for the police department and a phone number of that department and for the officer on duty.
Do not send any money and if in doubt, contact the local police department or the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 882-7332.
