An unpredictable winter storm brought more snowfall than expected to Lincoln County, with the midcoast area receiving the highest accumulations, according to The National Weather Service.
The storm had been subject to an ever-changing array of NWS alert levels, starting with a Winter Storm Watch on Friday, then downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory Saturday morning and finally upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning just before it chugged in on Saturday night.
Forecasts and observations from combined sources on Sunday indicated that the storm was coming in with higher snowfall rates than expected, and that the midcoast area was particularly hard hit.
Forecast accumulations for Lincoln County were in the 8 to 12 inch range with “locally higher amounts”, according to the NWS. Originally snowfall totals were forecast at 4 to 7 inches.
The Winter Storm Warning remained in effect until midnight Sunday.
