A Whitefield resident sustained injuries to his face after rolling his van off Rt. 218 in Alna Tuesday morning and was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Anthony Anderson, 40, was traveling south in a 2004 Honda Odyssey mini-van on Rt. 218 at around 7 a.m. just north of the Alna Store when he became distracted. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Specialist Sergeant Jason Nein said Anderson thought he saw a deer and drifted into the southbound shoulder, striking the guardrail head-on.
“It only takes a moment,” Nein said.
The van traveled down the embankment and rolled over, coming to rest in Trout Brook below the bridge. Nein said Anderson was able to free himself from the van and Wiscasset Ambulance transported him to the hospital shortly thereafter.
Nein said a passer-by made the call to 911.
Two trucks and workers from G & G Towing of Boothbay pulled the car from the stream. Alna firefighters and emergency personnel were on the scene for about two hours as they diverted traffic and secured the area.
Nein said he would contact the Dept. of Transportation to notify them of the damage to the guardrail. He said the car appeared to be a total loss.
