Scott’s mother, Mary Norwood, 46, of Boothbay, has been charged with hindering apprehension and/or prosecution, a class E crime.
According to Wiscasset police, Scott Norwood fled the scene of a two-vehicle collision in the area of Gardiner Road (Route 27) and Huntoon Hill Road around 4:30 p.m.
According to police, while police, fire, and emergency medical units were en route to the scene, they continued to receive updates via the Lincoln County Communications Center.
Initial reports indicated one the vehicles involved left the scene traveling north on Gardiner Road. A witness indicated the male driver of the suspect vehicle had gotten into a white, four-door Subaru and fled up Fowle Hill Road.
Arriving on scene, Wiscasset Fire and EMS personnel located the suspect vehicle on Gardiner Road in the area of Fowle Hill Road. The vehicle was identified as a gray 2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty, registered to Norwood.
According to the press release, the truck had lost control, gone into a swampy area near the intersection, and become stuck.
The second driver in the collision was located at the Huntoon Hill Road scene. He was subsequently identified as Frank Garboski Jr., 46, of Belgrade. He was operating a large red and white 2005 International box truck registered to Hammond Lumber Company.
Garboski told Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline he had stopped for turning traffic when he felt the impact from a vehicle rear-ending his truck. Garboski said he observed a gray pickup fleeing the area afterward with substantial front-end damage.
He also provided Cline with a registration plate that allegedly came off the front of the gray truck.
Garboski was subsequently transported to Mid Coast Hospital for treatment for back and abdominal pain.
The subsequent investigation involved the Wiscasset Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Boothbay Harbor Police Department, and culminated in the charges filed against the Norwoods after they went to the Wiscasset Police Department April 9.
Police allege Scott Norwood fled the scene to a local business, where he contacted Mary Norwood to come pick him up. She responded and removed Scott from the area of the accident.
Both Norwoods will be arraigned April 30 in Wiscasset District Court.
