A female kayaker was injured and transported to the hospital following a collision with a motorboat on Pemaquid Pond in Nobleboro on Sunday, July 3.
According to Nobleboro Fire Chief Ryan Gallagher, the motorboat was towing a water-skier and did not see the kayak due to the reflection of the setting sun on the water at the time of the collision.
Gallagher said the motorboat picked up the kayaker and brought her to shore, where she was attended to by Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service and transported to LincolnHealth-Miles Campus in Damariscotta. She was reportedly transported by LifeFlight helicopter from Miles to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Gallagher said the collision occurred near the Damariscotta-Nobleboro town line. Both departments received pages from Lincoln County Communications shortly after 7 p.m.
Gallager said the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Warden Service responded. A spokesman for the Maine Warden Service, which investigates boat accidents on inland waters, did not respond to a request for information.
