The family of a sexual abuse victim received $250,000 in settlement from Maine School Administrative District 40 following a recent U.S. District Court decision.
MSAD 40 Business Manager Scott Vaitones confirmed insurance for the district covered the cost of the settlement.
The district’s budget has a separate line item to cover the cost of legal fees. The deductible paid toward the settlement paid by the insurance company amounted to $2500.
The final decision in this matter stems from a sexual abuse case involving a Medomak Valley High School Alternative Education teacher’s aide and a student in the program at the school.
Amy Bramhall, then 33, received three and one half years prison time, with all but one year suspended for gross sexual assault and sexual abuse of a minor, and for furnishing alcohol to a minor on Dec. 20, 2006.
