A Waldoboro man awaiting trial for murder at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset has been charged with drug trafficking after law enforcement officers foiled his plan Sept 19.
Earl “Buddy” Bieler, 25, of Waldoboro, who is accused of the fatal stabbing of Rachel Grindal and attempted murder of Tracy Nield outside of Nield’s home on April 19, was caught conspiring to smuggle Oxycodone pills into the jail with the help of a visitor.
Bieler and Jeffrey Richards, 43, of Dresden were caught when Faylene Bronn, 45, of Litchfield was visiting Bieler carrying the pills, according to a Sept. 24 notice from the Maine Dept. of Public Safety.
Richards was serving time at the jail for Probation Revocation, jail spokesperson Maj. Mark Anderson said.
Jail officers stopped Bronn as she was attempting to smuggle four 15 mg. Oxycodone pills hidden inside a deflated balloon, police said. They said she had planned to drop the balloon on the floor during the Saturday morning visit and Bieler was to pick it up and swallow it.
Corrections officers at the jail had been investigating the possibility of the smuggling attempt and were aware of the plan when Bronn arrived at the jail with the concealed pills.
The three have been charged with Trafficking in Prison Contraband, a Class C felony.
