On Saturday, July 26, Salt River Farm, 69 Rittall Rd., Boothbay will host an all-day music festival fundraiser to benefit the farm and the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
The event will feature seven bands, playing a variety of different music along with a lobster bake, pig roast, brick oven pizza, ice cream, massage, and holistic practitioners.
The festival will be held in the upper field, visible from the road. The music will start at noon and end at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the gate on the day of the show. Kids 12 and under are free so bring the whole family. Concessions are extra.
Located off Route 27 Salt River Farm has been a Boothbay landmark for years with its yellow farm house, gazebo, barns, gallery, gardens and multiple fields. Over the years the gallery has held fresh produce, art, and is now home to a consignment shop. Also recognizable to anyone traveling by are the carved moose out front and the Miss Piggy mailbox across the street from the farm.
Over the last two summers, the farm has been home to a community garden that has provided fresh organic vegetable and fruit for the Boothbay Region Food Pantry. Many volunteers make this possible.
Scott Rittall, who in part shares the farm with his mother Joan, started the communtiy garden last summer with other volunteers. There are hopes other farm-centered community projects will grow on Salt River Farm’s 35-acre property.
Scott Rittall said he envisions blueberries, strawberries and fruit trees where there is now just grass. Recently a greenhouse was installed behind the gallery which will be used to dry seaweed.
Rittall who is also a musician looks to have concerts and dances in the old barn. This enables people to see and learn traditional skills of the farm.
In the future, Rittall hopes turn Salt River Farm into a teaching and learning center, from farming to music education.
