Seemingly just in time for Halloween, a security camera at the Lincoln County Court House has taped a mysterious object as it floated down a hallway and disappeared through the solid wood of a closed door.
Courthouse technicians were checking videotapes in an effort to ascertain why some of the recently installed cameras in the building weren’t functioning properly. Almost accidentally, they noticed something strange.
At 6:18 p.m. on Sept. 27 a camera that had been off suddenly switched on, apparently activated by its motion detector system.
From the lower right corner of the screen a misty circular object appears, emanating from a solid wall. It wanders down the hallway, makes a turn, passes through a closed wooden door into a room and then returns to view by passing through the same door back into the hallway.
It glides further back up the hallway towards the camera and then stops momentarily. Then it turns and passes through another solid wooden door. This time it does not reappear, and after some seconds without movement in the hallway, the camera automatically shuts down. The whole scene lasted about seven seconds.
Very little can be discerned about the object from simply viewing the tape, but two aspects about the object are obvious.
The object’s presence was substantial enough to activate the motion detector on the camera, which is more than a bug or small mouse could do, according to the technicians at the courthouse. The object also appears to be seen in proper perspective as it moves up and down the hallway. The perspective is visually enhanced by a long mat bordered by checkerboard floor tiles.
“When we first saw the tape, we didn’t know what to make of it, but as we continued to review it, it became apparent that there was definitely something there,” said County Commissioner Chair Sheridan Bond, who reviewed the tape with entire board. “We sure didn’t know what it was, and we still don’t.”
The tape is still under review by the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners and is not available to the public.
