On Sept. 30, Nobleboro Central School students celebrated the completion of their new playground with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and speeches.
The playground was made possible by a $25,000 grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine, which funded the basketball hoops, a ‘maypole’ and a large piece of fitness equipment. The Nobleboro PTO also raised $10,000 for the project through fundraisers over the past several years. In addition, community, parent and school volunteers donated their time to construct the playground equipment.
“The Nobleboro Central School playground has been a real team effort,” said NCS Principal Ann Hassett. “The Parent Teacher Organization has been working to improve our playground for many years, and parent, school and community volunteers donated hundreds of hours to the project, but without the generous support of Ronald McDonald House Charities, our new playground would still be years away from completion.”
Student representatives participated in holding the ribbon, while the rest of the school counted down to the moment the ribbon was cut. The event also included speeches by Hassett, NPTO Member and Grant Writer Paul Miner, President of the Board of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine Gary Eckmann, and Damariscotta McDonald’s Owner/Operator Ronald Lydick.
“For more than twenty years, Ronald McDonald House Charities has provided funding to organizations that positively impact children and families across the state,” Eckmann said. “It is heart warming to know that the children of Nobleboro will have a play area where they can enjoy healthy outdoor activities and fitness fun for many years to come.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine was founded in 1989 by the owner/operators of McDonald’s restaurants in Maine and Eastern New Hampshire as a way to give back to the community. Since then, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine has grown from a small non-profit organization to a powerful force of change in our communities and in our children’s lives. Over the past 22 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine has granted more than $1.7 million to local children’s programs that make a measurable impact in our communities.
