Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Caleb Poirier started work April 6, becoming the newest addition to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Poirier, 27, is originally from Gloucester, Mass. “My family has been coming back and forth for a long time now, so I have some ties to the state and decided to move up here,” Poirier said.
Poirier graduated from Salem State University in Salem, Mass. with bachelor’s degrees in accounting and criminal justice. “I gave accounting a try, didn’t like it, so I decided to go for law enforcement,” he said.
He started his career in law enforcement as a trooper recruit with the Maine State Police. He graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Program in December 2014.
After a short time on the road with the state police, Poirier signed on with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
“I just felt it would be a better fit for me,” he said. “It seems to be a great agency and I’m really liking it so far.” His co-workers are dedicated and great to work with, he said.
Law enforcement “has always been one of the top things on my list of what I’d want to do someday,” Poirier said. “As I got older and started doing a few different things, I realized that this is what I want to do, so I shot it up to the top of my list and here I am.”
Poirier appreciates the variety that law enforcement offers.
“You get to go out and meet a lot of different people, handle a lot of different situations,” he said. “It’s not the same every day.”
“It’s a challenge,” Poirier said. “I like it.”
He is also enjoying his new home.
“From what I’ve seen of the county so far, it seems like a beautiful place,” Poirier said. “I’m looking forward to living here and working here.”
