Peapod Jewelry of Round Pond has released a new necklace design called the Two Peas in a Pod Heart. Designed by artist Ronna Lugosch, this piece is sterling silver with 18k gold wire detail. It is available with a choice of white pearls, red carnelian or green malachite. Other colors may be available by special order.
Lugosch begins her creations by carving a wax model. This model is surrounded by a plaster mold and placed in the kiln. As the temperature increases the wax softens and melts out of the mold. Next sterling silver is heated until it is molten and is injected into the plaster filling the void where the wax had been. The plaster is submerged in a bucket of water, which causes it to break up and reveal the design in silver. From there the design is sanded and polished and wire, pearls and gemstones are added.
