Damariscotta attorney Peter Drum is pleased to announce that he recently formed a new law practice with his long-time friend and brother-in-law, Patrick Parson. Drum recently left the local firm of Walker and Drum, where he was a founding partner and general practice attorney.
Drum began practicing law with Walker and Drum after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2005. Drum’s practice has been primarily focused on municipal law, litigation, and real estate. In his municipal practice, Drum represents the towns of South Bristol, Newcastle, Bar Harbor, and Washington. Drum is a long-time Damariscotta resident and graduate of Lincoln Academy and Great Salt Bay School.
Drum is no stranger to local, regional, and national politics. Prior to law school, Drum served on the legislative staff of the House Minority Leader in the U.S. Congress. Drum left the U.S. Congress to become the Maine Political Director for the Gore 2000 Campaign. Also prior to law school, Drum worked for the Public Law and Policy and International Law practices at the high-powered Washington, D.C. law firm Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer, & Feld, LLP.
In 2005, he was legal counsel to Our Town, a local effort to keep big box retailers from establishing businesses in the Damariscotta area. He recently campaigned for a seat in the Maine House of Representatives as a candidate for House Seat 51.
Drum is married to Becky, a native of Fort Fairfield, Maine. The Drums are the parents of two wonderful twin girls.
Drum’s new law partner, Patrick Parson, originally hails from small-town Montana. Parson and his wife, Elsa, returned to Damariscotta with their two small boys after Parson completed several years of service as an officer and attorney in the United States Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps.
Parson was honorably discharged in August after serving six years in the Army JAG Corps. Parson is a combat veteran who served a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq as the trial counsel and Regimental Judge Advocate for the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Iraq.
During his military service, Parson also served as the senior defense counsel for Fort Polk, La., where he was rated as the Army’s top defense attorney in the southwestern United States and one of the top two senior defense counsels in the Army.
Parson was promoted to the rank of major and assigned as the chief court-martial prosecutor for Fort Hood, Tex., the largest Army base in the U.S.
In total, he prosecuted and defended approximately 80 courts-martial and supervised other attorneys on the prosecution and defense of more than 300 courts-martial. Prior to attending law school, Parson served three years as a Regular Army lieutenant, including service as a scout platoon leader and as a company executive officer with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. Parson is an honors graduate of Gonzaga University and the University of Maine, School of Law.
Parson and Drum joined forces to combine their distinct talents in one firm that is now dedicated to providing a broad range of legal services to the people, businesses, and communities of Midcoast Maine.
This fall, Parson and Drum look forward to providing excellent representation in the areas of municipal law, trial defense, land use, zoning, real estate, divorce, civil litigation, and government relations.
Parson & Drum Attorneys, LLC is dedicated to the highest standards of professional ethics and service to clients, looking forward to serving the community.
