Light voting was the word of the day in the election of new directors to the Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit (SVRSU) in the four Lincoln County towns, with results also from the three other communities making up the SVRSU.
Wiscasset Town Clerk James George reports, Shawn Carlson (72), Eugene Stover (66) and Kim Andersson (23) were elected to the three available seats. There were eight other write-in votes, each garnering one vote.
Westport Island town clerk reports light voting and unofficial totals, pending certification by interim RSU secretary Martha Witham. For the two director seats available, Michelle Chartier (71), and Richard DeVries (51), are the new members. Write-in candidate Sandra Crehure received 25 votes.
Alna reports Albert Lawrence received 31 votes, and William Stafford 38 to fill its two seats.
Whitefield results (see related story this issue of The Lincoln County News) include Lester Schaffer (34), Joan Morin (34) and write in Hilary Holm (24) for the three seats.
Somerville’s results are not available by press time, though Christopher Johnson and Eric Peaslee are up for the town’s two seats.
The SVRSU also includes the towns of Chelsea, Palermo, and Windsor.
In Chelsea the three members are Sherill Hallett (12), Allen Hallett (11), and Richard Cote (11).
In Palermo, the two new members are Blake Brown (37) and Bob Temple (25).
In Windsor all the candidates were write-ins, and officials are in the process of certification. Thomas Birmingham (28) and Gerry Nault (22) are the two members officially accepted. Write-in Gary Emond received 15 votes, and there is question as to whether he will accept the post. Next are Roger Mills with 14 votes, and Alan Turner with 11.
One of the first duties of the 20 directors will be to hire a superintendent.
