Rising Tide Community Market has appointed Alan MacQueen as its new general manager. MacQueen, a Wiscasset resident, assumed the role on Dec. 10, 2012. He had been the grocery manager in the store since 2009.
“After conducting an extensive national search, the Rising Tide Board strongly believes they have found in Alan MacQueen a general manager who has the best skills, experience, vision and personal qualities to lead Rising Tide into the future,” said Kent Whitaker, Rising Tide Board President.
Susan Barbera, board member and search committee chair said, “The common theme in Alan’s successful career was the joy he got from empowering his people and watching them succeed.”
MacQueen has a very interesting and accomplished work history. His path to becoming general manager started with a love of farming, which began as a teen on his family’s farm.
This led MacQueen to obtain an undergraduate degree in Agriculture from the University of Vermont. A long and successful career at Marriott Management Services followed and during this time MacQueen also obtained an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
He ultimately became president of the firm’s Canadian division but the pull of farm life eventually brought Alan MacQueen and his wife Candee back to Maine to run a small dairy farm. While no longer actively running that enterprise, he still keeps a few cows and awakens daily at 4 a.m. to milk them.
Rising Tide is a cooperative food store that welcomes all members of the community. The store takes pride in being a trusted, community-based resource for high quality foods and goods.
During the past year, the co-op helped support the local economy by purchasing nearly $1 million in foods and goods from nearly 180 different local farmers and vendors.
