No serious injuries resulted from a three-car accident at the corner of Mills and Academy Hill Roads in Newcastle, but all three vehicles were totaled.
According to Deputy Peter Kenyon of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Evan Patierno, 21, of Groton, Mass., did not stop at the Mills Road stop sign in a 2005 Chevy Colorado. Instead, continuing across the intersection, Patierno struck a 1998 Chevy pickup driven by Brian Stebner, 19, of Nobleboro.
The impact forced Stebner, who was traveling from Main Street onto Academy Hill Road, into oncoming traffic on Academy Hill and a 2004 Audi AA driven by Griffin Dunn, also 19, of Vermont.
Stebner was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital after complaining of chest pains. Stebner’s chest struck his vehicle’s steering wheel during the collision. Stebner was released, Kenyon said.
The accident re-routed traffic around the busy intersection for “almost an hour,” Kenyon said.
Kenyon issued Patierno a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign. “This could have been avoided had the operator been paying attention,” he said.
