The Newcastle Planning Board has unanimously approved Lincoln Academy’s application to build a dormitory and applied technology and engineering center.
The Dec. 12 vote is contingent on the receipt of a letter from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to confirm the school has a DEP permit for the work, and a letter of “financial feasibility” from the school.

The school plans to start construction on the side-by-side projects in March, a school representative said.
The dormitory, big enough to house 54 students and a half-dozen sets of dormitory “parents” with their families, will provide space for the school’s boarding program to continue to grow.
The engineering center will replace the out-of-date shop under the school gym and allow the school to expand its technology education curriculum.
The construction site is near the baseball diamond and a parking area for buses and staff.
The Dec. 12 vote followed a brief and sparsely attended public hearing at the Newcastle fire station.
