Newcastle voters elected a new selectman and school committee member and re-elected another selectman and a sanitary district trustee at the polls Tuesday, June 9.
Newcomers Joel Lind and Joshua Jacobs will join the Newcastle Board of Selectman and the Great Salt Bay and Newcastle school committees, respectively. Lind received 55 votes and Jacobs 118. Lind was a write-in candidate.
Lind and Jacobs will replace Selectman Patricia “Pat” Hudson and school committee member Susan Glueck, respectively. Neither ran for re-election.
Selectman Chris Doherty and Great Salt Bay Sanitary District Trustee Allan Ray won re-election with 105 and 115 votes, respectively. All four winners will serve three-year terms.
Newcastle voters also validated the 2015-2016 elementary and secondary education budgets, 91-36 and 89-38, respectively.

The district’s budget includes all expenses for K-8 education for Bremen, Damariscotta, and Newcastle. Each town’s share of the student population determines its share of the budget after accounting for other revenue sources like state funds and tuition students.
