A Newcastle man faces three class B counts of unlawful sexual contact for incidents involving a 3-year-old child, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Detective Sgt. Ronald Rollins and Detective Terry Michaud arrested Gary L. Collamore, 68, Tuesday, July 14, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
In February 2014, the sheriff’s office received a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services about the incidents.
“After an investigation, charges were not brought forward due to lack of evidence at the time,” Lt. Michael Murphy said in the press release.
At the time of a January arrest for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, Collamore “made some statements of his involvement with the earlier allegation,” Murphy said. “This reopened the earlier investigation into the alleged sexual assault.”
The sheriff’s office conducted “an exhaustive investigation” and made the arrest. As of Tuesday, July 21, Collamore remains in custody at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset in lieu of $250 cash bail.
On Jan. 10 of this year, Deputy Ryan Chubbuck arrested Collamore for allegedly brandishing a knife and threatening to kill Chubbuck in Collamore’s Newcastle Center apartment.
In the cruiser while en route to a hospital for evaluation, Collamore allegedly confessed to sex crimes against a young female relative, according to Chubbuck’s report. He also told a doctor he was a “child molester,” Chubbuck said.
A Lincoln County grand jury indicted Collamore on a charge of class C criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon March 9. He will appear in court for a dispositional conference Monday, July 27.
Collamore has made an initial appearance on the new charges and will next appear in court for a dispositional conference at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 14.
Bath attorney David Paris represents Collamore in both matters. Paris declined comment on the new charges.
Class B and C crimes are felonies with maximum penalties of 10 and five years in prison, respectively.
