A 79-year-old Newcastle man died Christmas Eve after suffering severe injuries in an auto accident earlier in the month.
Pearley “Jake” O. Creamer Jr. was struck by a car in a downtown Damariscotta intersection.
Police Chief Steve Drake said a preliminary investigation showed on Dec. 4, the victim walked into the path of a car operated by Mason Monti, 17, of Nobleboro.
“We believe the victim was unable to see out of his left eye and did not see the car,” said Drake.
Based on their preliminary investigation, no charges are contemplated, Drake said.
Creamer was a familiar figure in the Twin Villages area as an employee of the Yellowfront Grocery and as the owner of a janitorial service for several local businesses.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 2 at the First Baptist Church of Damariscotta.
