The Newcastle Board of Selectmen voted Monday to lower the mil rate for the town’s property tax payers.
The board voted to set the mil rate for 2011 fiscal year at $14.30 per $1000 of assessed violation. The current rate is $14.60.
Jim Murphy, the town’s tax agent, said the reduction means that some property tax bills will go down, but some may go up, because the town corrected a series of errors in earlier tax calculations.
Other factors that affect the tax bills include the decision of state government to lower the homestead exemption.
