A Newcastle woman faces several misdemeanor charges after allegedly kicking and spitting on a Damariscotta police officer outside Yellowfront Grocery the evening of Sept. 2.
Alisa M. Wallace, 47, faces class D charges of assault and criminal mischief and class E charges of disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest.
Damariscotta Police Officer Jason Warlick said he was dispatched to Yellowfront Grocery around 8 p.m. for a report of a woman who allegedly vandalized flower beds outside the store and “verbally assaulted” people inside the store.
Warlick arrived and located a “highly intoxicated” Wallace inside the store, he said. He told Wallace to come outside, where she proceeded to curse and swear.
Warlick warned Wallace, but she “continued to yell profanities,” so he arrested her for disorderly conduct.
“While I was trying to arrest her, she resisted arrest,” Warlick said. “She kicked me twice. She spit on me.”
“The entire event was recorded on my body camera,” Warlick said.
Warlick transported Wallace to Two Bridges Regional Jail, where she fought with jail staff, he said.
Warlick said the incident serves as an example of how excessive alcohol use can affect an otherwise peaceable person and result in negative consequences for the individual and the public.
Wallace is free on $500 cash bail. Her bail conditions ban her from Yellowfront Grocery, prohibit the possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs, and subject her to random searches and tests.
Wallace declined comment.
She is due to appear in Wiscasset District Court at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24. A class D crime carries a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine; a class E crime a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
