Funding finally in hand, Damariscotta will proceed with the long awaited reconstruction of the storm drainage system, water main and sidewalks on a portion of Church St. later this month.
The affected area runs from Main St. to the intersection of Elm Street.
“This has been a very difficult project to coordinate due to the various funding sources being utilized,” said Damariscotta town manager Greg Zinser. “The final set of funds has been approved. Each of these funding sources has it’s own set of deadlines and requirements. Therefore, we are required to utilize the deadlines and other requirements of the grant with the strictest requirements. Things are going to happen very quickly from this point.”
According to Zinser, the contract documents were executed on Aug. 13. The contractor, Moultonboro N.H. based Penta Corporation, will begin work Aug. 24. Initially, the work will be relatively minor and involve test pits and road cutting. Substantial construction is slated to begin after Labor Day.
A public information session is scheduled for Thursday Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. at the town offices on Chapman St. The purposes of the meeting will be to discuss the construction schedule and inform residents what to expect, Zinser said. The project design is not scheduled to be a topic of discussion.
“Construction will inconvenience everyone, but with proper communication we can lessen the impacts,” Zinser said.
