A man and woman accused of a murder in Waldoboro will likely go to trial in May, 2010.
During a discovery hearing at the Lincoln County Superior Court earlier this afternoon, Earl “Buddy” Bieler, 25, and Corina Durkee, 42, of Waldoboro learned they will go to trial together.
Bieler and Durkee are accused of murdering 27 year-old Rachel Grindal and attempting to murder 32 year-old Tracy Neild during an April 19 attack in front of Neild’s home on Controversy Lane.
Under the council of defense attorney Philip Cohen, Durkee withdrew a motion for her and Bieler’s cases be tried separately, which Justice Andrew Horton endorsed.
Horton accepted all of the motions requested by both the defense and state prosecution after meeting with them in his chambers before the hearing.
Assistant Attorneys General Don Macomber and Leane Zainea requested information on a defense expert witness submitted by Bieler.
While tentatively scheduling the trial for May, Horton gave defense attorney William Avantaggio, who is defending Bieler, and Philip Cohen, who is defending Durkee, a deadline of Feb. 1 to submit their reports.
