Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstructionist Sgt. Jason Nein, is still investigating the crash that claimed the lives of Mechelle Spencer, 66, of Southport Island, and Elaine Robinson, 66, of Sydney, Aug. 23 in Boothbay.
Following standard operating procedure, blood samples were taken from all involved, Nein said.
Investigators are still determining just who was and who was not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. According to a statement from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have no information that leads them to believe that speed or alcohol were factors.
Rescue personnel from the Boothbay Fire Dept., Boothbay Harbor Fire Dept., and Boothbay Region Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
The primary investigating officer is Deputy Chad Gilbert. Crash Reconstruction Specialist Nein was assisted by Sgt. Daniel Sceviour and Sgt. Brendan Kane with conducting a reconstruction of the crash event. Members of the Boothbay Harbor Police Dept. also responded to assist.
