The notice, issued July 21, ordered Mattson Development of Winthrop to tear down the concrete tower, remove steel and cap or fill the foundation. They were also ordered to pay a $500 fine.
Mattson Development referred all calls to Robert Martin. He did not return calls seeking comment on the town action.
The letter was sent by Stan Waltz, the Newcastle code enforcement officer. He ordered the removal of the construction items be done in 10 days.
Town ordinance says that because the project has been dormant for more than 90 days, their building permit was no longer valid.
“We talked to them around Memorial Day and Martin said the project was on hold. He agreed to remove the tower and steel and secure the property,” said Ron Grenier, the town administrator.
Grenier said other calls to Mattson/Martin brought promises but no action.
“We will now bring this matter to the Select board for their review, Grenier said. That action is expected to be taken on Monday.
