The investigation continues into the head-on collision on Union Road that took the life of a 63-year-old Waldoboro man June 4.
The surviving driver in the accident, Steven Kaler, 43, of Warren remains in critical condition in a Boston hospital.
“The driver is in pretty serious condition,” said Waldoboro Police Det. Lance Mitchell said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
Investigations into fatal accidents always take time Mitchell said. Currently Waldoboro police are awaiting reports from the State Police.
State police performed an accident reconstruction at the scene. Investigators have also conducted vehicle autopsies to determine if any mechanical defects may have contributed to the crash, Mitchell said.
The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on the Union Road also known as Rt. 235 when Kaler’s southbound 1965 Chevy pickup truck crossed the centerline and struck Benner’s northbound 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Benner was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaler and a passenger, Robert Colpritt, 33, of Rockland, were both critically injured.
