No one was seriously injured in a car-bicycle collision on Rt. 1 in Newcastle in front of the Sherman Marsh rest area shortly after 11 a.m. July 5.
The adult male bicyclist appeared to receive treatment for cuts in an ambulance, but was walking around at the scene thereafter.
The impact of the bicyclist with the car, a silver Volkswagen with New Jersey plates, smashed the car’s windshield. The bicycle was an orange Diamondback mountain bike.
The driver of the car and a law enforcement officer expressed surprise that the bicyclist wasn’t seriously injured or killed. The bicyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet, the driver said.
Details of the incident were not immediately available.
The Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Newcastle Fire Department responded to the scene.
