Five people were taken to the hospital following a two-car collision that snarled traffic on Route 1 in Wiscasset Nov. 2.
According to Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline, Melissa Vallieres, 40, of Pittston, was driving a 2007 Honda south on Route 1 at around 2:19 p.m. Vallieres attempted a left-hand turn onto Flood Avenue when she was struck from behind by Jessica Gagne, 23 of Boothbay Harbor, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla.
According to the police report, Gagne said she never saw Vallieres’ vehicle due to the glare of the afternoon sun.
Vallieres and passengers Penelope Christ, 27, Michelle Harrington, 45, and two six-year-old children were all transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, Cline said.
According to Cline, the children in the vehicle were not injured, but were transported as a precaution due to their ages and their parents’ request. At the scene Vallieres, Christ, and Harrington complained of various pains, Cline said.
Gagne and a two-year old passenger were not transported.
Wiscasset police were assisted at the scene by the Wiscasset Fire Department, Central Lincoln County Ambulance, Bath Ambulance and Wiscasset Ambulance Service.
