Medomak Valley High School had no water as of midday on Dec. 20, but classes remained in session, according to MVHS Principal Harold Wilson. A number of sporting events have been postponed, however.
The varsity basketball double header against Waterville has been moved to Tues., Jan. 14. Saturday’s freshman and JV games with Lincoln Academy have been moved to Sat., Dec. 28 at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon.
Wilson said the water shut off for unknown reasons at about 10:30 a.m., and staff members were escorting students across the campus to Medomak Middle School to use the restroom.
“It’s very convenient so we don’t have to cancel school for the day,” he said.
The high school has had water issues through the year and recently had a new well pump installed, Wilson said.
Food for the students had already been prepared before the water issue arose, and Wilson was looking into how to provide drinking water for the students.
District facilities personnel were working on identifying and rectifying the water issue, Wilson said.
An attempt to reach RSU 40 Facilities and Transportation Director George Bridges for comment was not immediately successful.
