Nobleboro’s fire chief was arrested at his home by the Damariscotta Police Department Aug. 29 for an alleged domestic violence assault.
Ryan A. Gallagher, 41, has served as the Nobleboro’s fire chief since 2010.
Damariscotta Police Officer Devin Polizzotti said he was dispatched for a 911 hangup check at Gallagher’s home, where the caller hung up before the dispatcher could talk to them.
“I showed up on scene, I spoke with the parties that were there, one of which was Mr. Gallagher,” Polizzotti said.
“And through an investigation that lasted a good amount of time, I was there for I’d say maybe half an hour to 45 minutes, there was evidence that one of the parties involved had been assaulted, and according to Maine statute, I arrested him [Gallagher] for domestic violence assault,” Polizzotti said.
Gallagher was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail, and was released the same day on $1,000 unsecured bail, according to jail staff.
A call to Gallagher for comment was not returned.
According to Nobleboro Selectman Chair Dick Spear, nothing has changed regarding Gallagher’s appointment as fire chief.
“He’s been a great fire chief, and he does a great job,” Spear said.
Gallagher took on the fire chief role in 2010, stepping up temporarily from his role as assistant fire chief when the Minnehata Fire Company voted out then-chief Woodbury McLean, according to The Lincoln County News archives.
The fire company elected Gallagher as chief just a few weeks later.
