A Nobleboro firefighter quickly freed a fisherman and his boat from a ledge on Pemaquid Pond Friday morning, Sept. 11.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Stebner freed the Champion 223 fishing boat from the ledge. The fisherman was then able to return the boat to the public ramp in Nobleboro under its own power.
Lincoln County Communications paged the Damariscotta, Newcastle, and Nobleboro fire departments to the report of a boater in distress about 1/4-mile from the ramp and 300-400 feet from shore at 8:56 a.m.
The fisherman declined to give his name or otherwise comment. He was driving an SUV with Massachusetts plates.
