A Nobleboro man is facing charges of operating under the influence and operating without a license after he crashed a vehicle into a tree on Route 32 in Waldoboro the morning of May 15.
Sumner Keith, 21, was headed south on Route 32 in a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon when he crossed the oncoming lane, narrowly avoided a utility pole, and struck a tree on the lawn of 690 Bremen Road, Waldoboro Police Officer Larry Hesseltine said following the accident.
“Witnesses said he just swerved off the road” but was traveling at or near the speed limit, Hesseltine said at the time.
Following the accident, Keith was taken by Waldoboro EMS to LincolnHealth – Miles Campus, and then by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center. Keith was treated for two collapsed lungs, according to his mother, Evelyn Keith.
Hesseltine said Sumner Keith was issued a summons for the two misdemeanor charges on June 19.
