Cody Harwin, 20, of Nobleboro, faces multiple felony charges after allegedly leading Damariscotta Police Officer Adam Lewis on a brief high-speed chase Oct. 5.
Lewis responded to 150 Biscay Rd. at 6:05 p.m. on a report of a male threatening the building’s occupants with a knife, Damariscotta Police Chief Chad Andrews said.
Lewis, upon arriving, asked three men standing in the driveway to identify the suspect. The men indicated Harwin, who was getting into a nearby vehicle, Andrews said. Lewis told Harwin to stop, but he fled.
Lewis pursued Harwin east along Biscay Road at speeds “up to 80 miles per hour,” Andrews said. Harwin turned right on Shamrock Lane, a dead end road.
Upon arriving at the end of the road, Harwin pulled over and Lewis arrested him at gunpoint, Andrews said. Harwin was “cooperative from that point on,” Andrews said, and Lewis transported Harwin to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
Neil Genthner, a reserve officer with the Damariscotta Police Dept., Waldoboro Police Officer Thomas Bartunek, Maine Game Warden Joe Lefebvre and Sgt. Daniel Sceviour, of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, provided back-up at the scene.
Harwin faces felony (Class C) charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and eluding an officer. He also faces a misdemeanor (Class D) charge of assault and civil violations for possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Harwin was intoxicated at the time of his arrest, Andrews said.
Andrews said he thinks the chase is the first in Damariscotta in at least two years.
Harwin was released on $1000 cash bail the following morning, a Two Bridges Regional Jail officer said. He is due to appear in Lincoln County Superior Court on Nov. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
