The Nobleboro Select Board named Lt. Kevin Rawley chief of the Nobleboro Fire Department, effective immediately, during a meeting the evening of Wednesday, May 22.
Interim Fire Chief Aaron Bradbury tendered his resignation at the May 22 meeting. Bradbury has acted as the town’s fire chief since November 2023, following the termination of previous chief, Richard Genthner. Bradbury said he is resigning because he will be going overseas for two years, with his departure from the area scheduled for July.
According to Bradbury, the town aimed to hire a new chief from within the existing fire department staff.
A native of the Midcoast, Rawley graduated from Medomak Valley High School in 2014. He has been with the Nobleboro Fire Department since 2019, most recently acting as a training officer. He has been a lieutenant for two years.
Rawley said he has learned so much from working in the fire department already, and is eager to continue learning.
“In the week since I became chief, we’ve had a car on fire, a wire down … It’s definitely been interesting,” said Rawley.
Rawley said he would like to try to get more people involved with the fire department, as he believes that there are not enough people working in the department during the day.
Outside the department, Rawley works with CedarWorks, a business that designs and manufactures residential playgrounds. His hobbies include playing video games, working with his hands, and taking part in indoor and outdoor activities.
Rawley married his wife, Breanna Rawley, in January. The couple resides in Nobleboro.
Bradbury said he feels the department is being left in good hands, and that Rawley is “a really good fit” for the role of chief.
