Nobleboro’s insurance provider told the town on Sept. 2 that they will receive $236,380 for replacement of the sand/salt shed, town officials said.
Previously, the town estimated they would receive about $210,000 towards replacing the shed, which collapsed under the weight of ice and snow last winter.
“We’re lucky we had the insurance we did,” said Dick Spear, chairman of the Nobleboro Board of Selectmen.
Last month, the selectmen signed a contract to have a new shed built for this winter. Per the contract, the new shed will cost $253,600. Voters at town meeting this year approved spending up to $25,000 with an option to borrow an additional $50,000.
With the insurance, the town will only need to pay $17,220; they will not need to borrow money, if the cost of the new shed and the amount they receive from insurance do not change.
Construction on the new shed is currently underway, and the selectmen said at the Aug. 31 meeting they are pleased with the progress so far. Spear said the town will “probably” get the same replacement insurance on the new shed.
