Taxpayers will pay less for the Nobleboro/Jefferson Transfer Station in 2012. Only Newcastle’s payment will increase, according to the station’s newly approved budget.
The transfer station’s board of directors voted to approve the 2012 budget at a meeting on Dec. 29. Overall, the budget request is down $20,000, falling to $430,000.
Newcastle’s payment is up slightly, rising $1200 to $109,650.
Nobleboro Selectman and Transfer Station Board member Dick Spear said the increase for Newcastle is due to the transfer station switching the latest – 2010 – census for each town’s population. Town population is used to determine each town’s share of the budget.
Other than the slight decrease to the overall request, and a slight decrease in tonnage in 2011 as compared to 2010, the board had very little to report, Spear said.
“We’re still encouraging as much recycling as possible,” Spear said. “Everything’s fairly smooth.”
