The latest news on the latest winter storm is that the National Weather Service downgraded the alert status Tuesday afternoon from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Weather Advisory. If that sounds familiar, just check the progression of the most recent storm, when the same seesaw forecast finally ended in an upgraded Winter Storm Warning – and an outcome that brought higher snowfall levels than forecast.
What does all that mean to the Lincoln County resident who just wants to know what kind of weather to expect on Wednesday? It means that the pattern of unsettled weather we’ve been experiencing for the past several weeks is the type that doesn’t play well with predictions. The short answer is, essentailly, that we will have weather. Here in Lincoln County, with the forecast freeze line running right along the Rt. 1 corridor, we’ll likely get the variety pack of favorites: heavy, wet snow; sleet; freezing rain; and rain.
The latest forecast from the NWS indicates the event will begin with snowfall sometime Wednesday morning and then disintegrate into the precipitation types mentioned above as the day progresses. The storm system will be a slow mover, continuing to deliver a variety of precipitation until finally chugging out of town sometime Thursday afternoon, according to the NWS.
The Winter Weather Advisory issued on Tuesday afternoon is in effect from Wednesday at 1 p.m. to Thursday at 3 p.m., according to the NWS. While there is a possibility that the NWS the alert status on this storm may change again, most forecasters tend to agree on the timing outlined above.
So, dress in layers and drive carefully (if you have to drive)… Weather is coming. We’ll just have to wait and see what kind it is.
As always, The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
